As an interior design professional, it’s crucial to stay on top of the latest interior design trends, nurture our creativity, and network with other professionals in the industry to gain more knowledge in the field. As a part of our ongoing education at Theresa Butler Interiors, it is a common business practice for us to attend various markets and industry events throughout the year. High Point Market is one of the leading days-long events geared towards creatives in the design space, and I was fortunate enough to attend this year’s Spring market!

Over the several days I was there, I was able to network with and meet so many wonderful designers from all over the world. It was so inspiring to learn other perspectives and see such a vast range of design styles. Meeting all these wonderful individuals and learning more about their work reinforced to me how personal interior design is, and how important it is to find the right designer who understands your vision and whose style complements yours!
As mentioned, High Point Market is one of the top resources as a designer to foster continued education. I attended several panels, and found the panel on the psychology of color led by Tracee Murphy of Trademark Interiors so insightful! One of my biggest takeaways was to start advising our clients to decide on their home’s color palettes in correlation to the colors in their closet as these are the colors our clients typically gravitate towards. Often our clients are hiring us to completely take the reins and are unsure where to start, so this tip will absolutely come in handy in the future for those clients who are looking to us to make color palette decisions upfront to ensure we are able to hit the mark in the early stages of designing. Additionally, we loved learning this fun fact in this panel: The gene that interprets red is on the X chromosome. So, women tend to see more red than men. Who knew!!

Seeing what is currently trending got my creative juices flowing as I was thinking of our current clients and upcoming projects that could include the latest interior design trends as well as trends we’re already incorporating into our designs like lots of COLOR. The days of light gray and neutrals are in the past, and we’ve been working on such fun color design projects that incorporate other trends like, my favorite, wallpaper! Design trends to start incorporating include: boucle, corduroy, layering patterns, large scale lighting, and curated artwork.
I also had the pleasure of being interviewed by Miss USA 2023, Noela Voigt, to discuss my experience at High Point Market! She was delightful, and it was such a pleasure to chat with her about all the great industry connections I had made, design trends for the year, and new business practices to provide my clients with even better experiences with Theresa Butler Interiors!

I strongly believe that we always have something to learn in this industry. There are such great benefits to surrounding ourselves with like-minded professionals in the design space to maintain our curiosity, cultivate our creativity, and learn ways to continuously improve our client experiences.
We had so much fun at High Point Market, we want to share all our favorite finds from the week. We can’t wait for the next one in October!
